Gay Media In Unity For Marriage Push
With only a week or so left of the government’s consultation on how to implement civil marriage for same-sex couples, the gay media has united in an effort to mobilise the community for the campaign, in a show of solidarity unseen since the campaign against Section 28 twenty five years ago. Gaydar Radio, which is the nearest thing to a national gay radio network, is airing regular promotions asking listeners to participate in the consultation. Websites and magazines are also taking part, as is Bristol’s LGBT magazine programme “ShoutOut”. Speaking for the rights charity Stonewall, Ben Summerskill said that the opponents of equality were fighting to derail what he described as the last major legal change campaigners have been seeking. Interested parties can also write to their MPs, particularly those Conservatives who may be in opposition to equality.
