Postponed Pride in Derby Scuppers Fundie Plans
Pride in Derby was postponed at the weekend due to severe weather conditions which left the recreation fields it was to take place on severely flooded. The organisers hope to rearrange the event. The postponement scuppers a planned anti-gay demonstration by Muslim fundamentalists. Only recently, several of the militants, who want to install religious law in the UK, were prosecuted under hate crime legislation. It should be noted however, that the grouplet do not represent the majority of Derby's Muslim population. Users of the news website PinkNews have been discussing how to deal with the fringe group. Meanwhile, atheist bloggers have been besides themselves with mirth this week, after a claim by some religious leaders that recent floods display God's anger at secularism, womens rights and gay rights, including marriage equality. The claims have been made by a variety of fringe religious groups, but were given sustenance by a report in the centre-right Daily Telegraph newspaper.
