WHO's have thought it? Health Award for Gay West Country MP

A gay Bristol MP has been given an award for his anti-smoking work by the World Health Organisation (WHO). Liberal Democrat Stephen Williams currently chairs a parliamentary group on smoking and health.He said: "Smoking causes people to die sooner than they would otherwise and that's one of my childhood memories of my father dying at the age of 42."

Mormons and LGBT Groups Build Bridges in Utah

400 Mormons marched in Sunday’s Utah Pride Parade, according to Gay Star News, who say it is an excellent example of religion and the LGBT community working together for peace and tolerance. A group of 400 Mormon allies of the LGBT community was cheered by tens of thousands of spectators the Utah Pride Parade in Salt Lake City. Members of the Mormons Building Bridges group marched with placards marked with their family names in line with the group’s 2013 theme of Family Reunion.

Lord Waheed Alli Adds Unique Gay Muslim Voice to Equal Marriage Debate

Lord Waheed Alli, Labour peer and one of just a handful of openly gay Muslim politicians globally, has said he believes many peers who now oppose same-sex marriage “will probably repent later”. In an interview withThe Independent, Lord Alli argued that is was contradictory for the Church of England to clamour that the bill damages religious freedom, as their opposition to it puts limits on religious groups who want to perform same-sex marriages. “They argue religious freedom except where they don’t like it,” he said.

Facebook Campaigners Call on LGBTQI Folks and Allies to Vote in Marriage Poll

The floundering local newspaper, the Bristol Evening Post, has launched a poll on whether West Country people think that marriage equality should be implemented. Only a small number of people have voted, and have come out against marriage equality. If enough LGBT folks and their allies vote, then the result can be easily changed. Commentators have cheekily suggested that the Post is deliberatly skewing the figures to appease its paymasters the Daily Mail.

Who's Next: Gay Fans Join Speculation as to Who Will Play the Twelfth Doctor!

Few LGBT fans of science fiction could not fail to notice that the eleventh incarnation of Doctor Who, Matt Smith, has announced his departure from the gay favourite science fiction programme. Media website Digital Spy, a popular gay internet destination, has already drawn up a shortlist of candidates to play the twelfth Doctor, into whom Smith will regenerate at Christmas. The list includes Harry Lloyd, Damien Molony and Daniel Rigby. Doctor Who will mark its fifieth anniversary this November.
