Equality Makes Strides Across All Social Groups, Says ICM Poll

The Guardian newspaper, which broadly supports LGBT equality, has published an poll by respected researchers ICM on marriage equality. It shows that despite numerous attempts to turn people against the idea, the public supports equality by a margin of more than two to one. The poll demonstrates majority support for equality across all social classes, all age groups, and in all parts of the UK. The holiday season saw some religious leaders hijack the traditional Christmas messages with attacks on equality, which very quickly became attacks on gay people generally.

NUS Warns that Sexy Calendars are Leading to Female "Objectification"

The University of Warwick's Boat Club has published a naked calendar of its members. It has been heavily featured in the gay press because it raises money for the StandUp Foundation, which fights bullying. A spread from the calendar of handsome young students is featured in the next issue of Gay Times magazine. However, that National Union of Students says that it fears that naked calendars are leading to objectification of female students in particular.

Ethical Hackers Serve Notice on Anti-Gay Extremists

What do you make of computer hacking? Is it a crime? Or can it be ethical? Even the most law abiding of LGBT people will probably raise a glass to the illegal hacking group Anonymous this week. The radical hackers targeted the notorious religious sect Westboro Bapist Church - the people who started their career picketing the funerals of gay people with offensive slogans, and who run a raft of extremist anti-gay and anti-Jewish websites. Anonymous forged a death certificate for the church's main spokeswoman, and downloaded heaps of gay pornography on to her personal computer.

Fired for Being Too Attractive

It's a case of only in the US.... the Supreme Court in Iowa ruled that employers can legally fire a worker if they are too attractive. The bizarre ruling, which has been condemned by feminists and workers rights groups, has been made after a dentist fired a dental assistant who had worked for him for ten years, because he found her irresistable. The woman had never flirted or provoked him, according to testimony from both sides. Campaigners noted that the ruling was made by seven justices, all older men.
